Direction

People are always seeking direction in life. When I coached a 10-year-old homeschool baseball team, I quickly realized that every player on the team wanted and needed direction at every practice and every game. The players were lost and would not know what to do. When I started giving direction on the simplest task, they responded to this task with energy and urgency. My first task was to practice running on to the field and off the field between innings. I spent most of practice with these drills to give direction to each player on how to do this part at a high level.

I was determined to teach the players to excel at this part, even if we lost every game. It was amazing to see how this first important direction led to high success in other areas. Your children want direction and they need direction in the simplest business and work responsibilities. How you talk, how you dress, how you handle yourself in work is the best place to start. It may have to be repeated many times, but once this task is conquered, your children will not want additional direction in how to take the next step.
